FALL ON ROCK, OFF ROUTE

New Hampshire, Cannon Mountain

On August 3, 1985, John Sidonis (?) took a 20 meter fall on the seventh pitch of Sam’s Swan Song. He sustained a broken shoulder, punctured lung, head injury, and numerous cuts and bruises. A technical rescue ensued. (Source: Rich Wilcox, New Hampshire Mountain Rescue Service)

(Editor’s Note: Each summer there are several falls on this route, primarily due to climbers getting off route slightly. Where this climber fell, there is a difficult variation that one can be lured into unless one knows the route or, better yet, is good at route finding.)
