Wisconsin, Devil’s Lake State Park

On May 10, 1980, Allen B. Hamilton (59), a man considered to be a skilled climber and a member of the Chicago Mountaineering Club, fell about 78 feet to his death from the east bluff. From the reports of all his companions, none of whom had seen the fall, Hamilton had just set up a belay protection at the top of the climb and was on his way down to the base of the cliff when he fell.
