FALL ON ROCK

Alberta, Rocky Mountains, Mt. Edith Cavell

E. Grassman (36) and G. Pilkington registered to climb the north face of Mt. Edith Cavell on 29-31 August 1979. On 1 September they were reported overdue by the Parks Trail Registration Office, and the Warden Service started a search. Their bodies were found hanging from their rope in the middle of the face, where they seemed to have fallen from about 600 meters higher. (Source: D. A. Dumpleton)

Analysis

Grassman was an experienced climber. Half the rope was taken in, indicating that they had been travelling together. There is the possibility that there may have been a rockfall. (Source: D. A. Dumpleton)
