FALL ON ROCK—Quebec, Val David, Mount King. Rene Giroux (22) and Dennis Theriault, who were inexperienced members of a rock school held by the Federation Quebecoise de la Montagne, were climbing on Mt. King on October 2. At 10:45 a.m., Giroux was leading and fell to the ground. He fractured his skull and a cervical vertebra and suffered cerebral hemmorage and compression. He died in the hospital of his injuries. He had been wearing a Galibier helmet which was deformed and cracked in the accident. (Source: Paul Laperriere.)

Analysis: The accident was caused mainly by inexperience and inappreciation of danger. Beginners should be better supervised. (Source: Paul Laperriere.)
