Mt. Sir Donald, Selkirk. On 1 August J. B. Swanson (27), Steve Tandy, John Pinamont, and Garey Tandy had climbed Sir Donald via northwest

ridge and descended via southeast ridge and southwest ridge. They had stopped while descending the Vaux Glacier when a rock about 18 inches square and 6 inches deep struck Swanson on the head killing him instantly and crushing his hard hat.

Analysis: Rockfall are rather common in this area. Timing is important when crossing these areas. Parties should keep moving in known hazardous areas.
