California, Yosemite National Park. The body of David Roach (30), a park ranger who had been missing since last Friday (in August), was found at the bottom of the Cleaver, a knife-edged ridge in the eastern portion of the park. Roach had apparently fallen about 200 feet onto an icefield while hiking down from the Matterhorn. The ranger had left the Twin Lakes area last Tuesday for a three day solitary hike, and was expected last Friday. A helicopter searching for him along with a small army of friends, fellow rangers and Mono County deputies spotted the body. Roach, an experienced forester stationed at Hodgdon Ranger Station, left Twin Lakes to hike to the Matterhorn and Sawtooth Ridge in Toiyobe National Forest. He signed the register atop the Matterhorn and was descending when he fell to his death.
