Colorado, Front Range, Grays Peak

Publication Year: 1968.

Colorado, Front Range, Gray’s Peak. On 12 May Thomas J. Le Mire (23), Allen Falls (21), and Jim Davis (20) were climbing in the Gray’s- Torries Peaks area near Georgetown, Colorado. Le Mire became separated from the other two. The clouds came down and apparently he climbed Torries instead of Gray’s and descended to the west putting him in the wrong saddle. He spent the night in a saddle between Torries and Grizzly and descended under his own power the next day.

Analysis: The climbers should have stayed together and also retreated at the first sign of deteriorating weather.
