British Columbia, Rockies, Mt. Vice-President
Publication Year: 1964.
British Columbia, Rockies, Mt. Vice-President. On 10 August J. A. Van Geldersen (26) of Vancouver, was climbing solo in Yoho National Park. He first climbed Mt. President, descended it safely, and then reached the top of Vice-President. While descending the face of this peak he fell.
Park authorities began a helicopter search when he was reported missing next day. On 12 August a helicopter flew four mountaineering wardens to the face and they found the body several hours later at 9,000 feet in an area of moderate difficulty.

Analysis: Once again, the dangers of solo climbing cannot be overstressed. Trouble that might be trivial with two on a rope can overpower one.
