Wyoming, Grand Teton National Park, Symmetry Spire. On June 10 Carlee Hendrix (26), Dale Swinney (31) and Ray Gump (35) had completed ascents of Ice and Storm Points and were glissading down the Symmetry Spire Couloir. Ray Gump had gone down about 100 ft. and stopped on a rock outcropping to wait for the others. Hendrix glissaded down below Gump and hit some rough snow near the north edge of the snowfield causing him to lose his balance. While attempting to effect a self-arrest he struck a rock along the edge of the snowfield with his right foot causing an injury to his ankle. With the aid of Swinney and Gump, Hendrix was belayed down the rest of the snowfield and a section of steep rock. At this point Swinney left Gump and Hendrix to report the accident and get help. District Ranger F. D. McLaren and Park Ranger L. R. Sinclair with three other members of the Idaho Alpine Club took a litter and wheeled litter carrier up the trail meeting the injured party shortly after they had reached the trail. Hendrix was transported to the west shore of Jenny Lake on the litter carrier then across the lake by boat and on to Idaho Falls by car for medical attention.
