Cordillera Darwin, Cordillera Darwin Traverse

From September 6 to October 5 Lionel Albrieux, Sébastien Bohin, Didier Jourdain, Dimitry Munoz, Sébastien Ratel, and François Savary, from the Groupe Militaire de Haute Montagne, made the first lengthwise crossing of the Cordillera Darwin. The team traveled from west to east, covered at least 250km on the ground, and ascended over 17,000m. The terrain was alpine, similar to the Mont Blanc Massif but three times as long. There were technically demanding sections, such as the narrow ridge linking Mts. Shipton and Darwin, and two new summits were climbed; Mt. Gines (2,022m) and Mt. Beyond the Far (2,026m). The story of this odyssey appears earlier in the Journal.
