North America, United States, Alaska, Revelation Mountains, Mt. Mausolus (9,170'), First Ascent

Publication Year: 2012.

Mt. Mausolus (9,170'), first ascent. From March 15 to 17 Clint Helander and Scotty Vincik made the first ascent of Mt. Mausolus. They climbed the west face via a dagger-like couloir, naming their route the Mausoleum in honor of Seth Holden, who died in 2010 in a small plane crash in the Susitna River Valley. Helander and Holden had climbed in the Revelations together three times, including a previous attempt on Mausolus by the same line, and Helander scattered Holden’s ashes from the summit. See Helander’s article earlier in this Journal.
