Kanta Gaton (5,910m). A French family expedition made the first known ascent of this small peak in the southeast corner of the Kanjiroba Himal, on the ridge immediately southwest of 6,005m Norbu Kang (climbed from the north in 2003 and 2008). The team flew to Juphal in early August. From here they trekked via Ringmo to a base camp at 4,885m, next to Chalugai Lake. On August 15 they established a high camp at 5,300m and the next day overcame several steep steps through seracs and an icefall on the glacier, before they set foot on the moderately angled southeast ridge. Two members turned back, but Abel Minelli, Eienne Minelli, Jean- René Minelli, Sarah Minelli, and Pemba Jangbu Sherpa reached the summit after four hours of climbing. They found no trace of previous traffic and are confident their ascent is the first of the route, if not the mountain.
