Tahu Rutum, attempt; Korea Youth Sar, possible first ascent. A seven-man Korean expedition led by Shim Kwon-sik attempted the west face of Tahu Rutum (6,651m) but gave up because of heavy snowfall, a porter strike, and other complications. Climbers Jeon Yong-hak and Hong Seung-gi, a high school student, made the possible first ascent of a nearby 6,000m peak with 1,400m of vertical relief above base camp; the two climbed alpine style, soloing up to 5,600m and then belaying to the top. They named the peak Korea Youth Sar.
