Asia, Tajikistan, Pik Chiringyad, West Face, Second Ascent

Pik Chiringyad, west face, second ascent. In a four- day round trip from base camp the five-member Russian team of Alexander Novikov, Maxim Pankov, Nicholay Sinushin, Andrey Satanin, and Michail Volkov (leader) made the second ascent of the 1989 Russian route (6B) up the center of the west face of Chiringyad (5,864m). This was most likely only the third ascent of this peak in the Yazgulem Range of the Western Pamir. The team left base camp at 7 a.m. on August 5, summited at 5 p.m. on the 8th, and were back in base camp at 8 p.m. on the 9th, after 45 hours of actual climbing. The climbers made a free ascent of the route, ca 1,860m vertical and a climbing length of 2,695m. The Yazgulem Range is a relatively unvisited sector of Tajikistan’s Gorno- Badakhshan Autonomous Province, culminating in Qullai Abu Ali Ibn Sina or Pik Revolutsiyi (Revolution Peak, 6,940m).
