Wind River Mountains, Mt. Osborn, Verloren. In early July Lander climber Kirk Billings and I made the first ascent of a prominent 1,200' wall on an east-facing buttress of Mt. Osborn in the northern Wind River Mountains. Camping at the north end of a glacier-carved valley, we glissaded to the base at dawn. We started with a prominent splitter in the center of the face and took it straight to the summit in eight hours of gorgeous climbing, veering slightly right to avoid the headwall. We named the route Verloren (10 pitches, III 5.10).
