Publication Year: 2002.

Meru North Peak (6450m), attempt. During September and October a three-member Japanese expedition led by Hiroyoshi Manome attempted the northeast face and the north pillar route. They established camps and reached 6050m. Falling stones and objective dangers were experienced. Finally, an avalanche swept away a cache of equipment, which included all their plastic boots, so the team had no option but to retreat.
