Antarctic Peninsula, various climbs. The British Army Antarctic Expedition aboard the John Laing made the second ascent of Mt. Johnston (2,304m) and conducted exploration of the high Peninsula areas, including the Forbidden Plateau. A climbing party of nine from this team reached the summit of Johnston on December 28, nearly 44 years after the first ascent in January, 1957. They later joined with members of the group on Gambo for a number of ascents (see above).

Elsewhere, the regular commercial climbing trip run by Australian company, Aurora Expeditions, operating aboard the ship Polar Pioneer, once again managed some interesting climbing, attempting the first ascent of the southernmost peak on Ronge Island, where they were turned back just below the summit due to windslab avalanche conditions.
