The Colorado Mountain Club

The Colorado Mountain Club. 1999 was a busy year for The Colorado Mountain Club. The Club graduated 258 students in its technical climbing schools and led three international expeditions of note. Basic Mountaineering Schools graduated 216 students, the Advanced Mountaineering 20, and the High Altitude Mountaineering School 22 with a graduation exercise of an ascent of Mount Rainier in Washington.

International climbing expeditions included ascents of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mount Elbrus in Russia and a volcano ascent in Ecuador. A total of 34 CMC climbers went on these trips with 32 reaching the actual summits. There were also trips to New Zealand, Peru and Alaska.

The CMC again had a successful year with thousands of volunteer-led trips to peaks, alpine attractions of the region and excellent local crags of Colorado and the surrounding states. Multiple conservation and education projects rounded out the year to help fulfill the CMC mission statement and provide for sustainable recreation in the future. Further information is available on the Club web page at www.cmc.org/cmc or by contacting the Colorado Mountain Club headquarters at the American Mountaineering Center, Golden, Colorado.
