Geregeer Mustagh, First Ascent. It was reported that in the summer of 1997, a joint Academic Alpine Club of Shizuoka and the Shizuoka University Alpine Club Japanese expedition made the first ascent of Mt. Geregeer Mustagh (5250m) in the Chinese Tien Shan. The team reached Base Camp on August 7 in good weather. Camp I was established at 3260 meters on the right side of the Geregeer Glacier on the 8th; CII was established two days later at 4120 meters higher on the glacier. On August 12, five members left CII at 7:05 a.m., reaching a col between Gareeger Mustagh and Pt. 5129m at 11:35 a.m. From there, Yusuke Sakuraba, Hajime Yoshida, Takashi Sato, Hisakazu Fukazawa and Iiji Hiraki all summited between 12:30 and 1:35 p.m. The team descended from CII to BC on the 14th, and departed for Boltong the next day.
