Kula, First Ascent. It was reported that Kula (a.k.a. Chalung, 6546m) was climbed for the first time by a 11-member Japanese expedition led by Tsunso Suziki. The team ascended the northwest ridge; eight climbers reached the summit on July 11, 1997, followed by three more on the 13th and another eight (apparently with some repeat summiters) on the 15th.
