Alaska Range, Traverse, and Kahiltna Dome, North Ridge. In March, 1997, Meg Perdue, Peter Yeomans, Greg Wolfgang and I traveled by dog sled from Denali National Park’s north entrance to Wonder Lake with two musher friends who took the dogs back out and left us to complete a 210-mile north-to-south dog sled/ski traverse of the Alaska Range. We made the first recorded ascent of Kahiltna Dome’s north ridge (twice) and descended the east ridge onto the Kahiltna to get flown out at the toe of the Kahiltna Glacier. We would have gone to the road, but the snow was a nightmare of mashed potatoes.
