North America, United States, Alaska, Denali National Park, Deception, North Face, and Mt. Brooks, Northwest Ridge

Deception, North Face, and Mt. Brooks, Northwest Ridge. In late July, Rick Studley and I scampered into the Muldrow via Glacier Creek. We climbed a low angle arête on the north face of Deception Peak and descended the east ridge back to base camp in nine hours. We named the climb The Abortion Blues Arête. After Deception and some rain, I soloed the northwest ridge of Mt. Brooks in 17 hours. It was the second ascent of the route. An electrical storm, complete whiteout, blowing snow and two pitches of 5.6 rock made for an interesting outing. After Brooks, we hiked out via McGongal Pass and swam while crossing the McKinley Bar.
