Mount Kilimanjaro, Hein Glacier, Snowboard Attempt. Wade McKoy and I climbed to 17,000 feet on the Hein Glacier route, which proved much steeper and icier than the photos in the guide showed. We lost a lot of time by belaying most of the route and were forced to retreat to catch a flight. After 21 hours of climbing we got back to our camp to find it completely gone. Our “guide” and porters brought it down, assuming we were going to descend the Arrow route back to Borranco. Another two hours of tricky route finding brought us back to the hut and our porters, who were relieved to see us.
