South America, Peru, Huandoy Group, Attempted Traverse

Huandoy Group, Attempted Traverse. It was reported that Brad Johnson and Bruce Normand attempted a traverse of all four Huandoy summits, succeeding on all but one. The pair first climbed the Northeast Face of Huandoy Sur from the Pisco high camp, bivouacking on the summit. Their attempted descent the next day down the northwest face to the plateau between the south and west summits was thwarted by poor visibility, and they were forced to reascend and bivouac again. The next day they reached the plateau, then climbed to the col between Huandoy Oeste and Norte. They climbed Oeste via the Northeast Ridge and bivouacked back on the col. On the fourth day they climbed the Normal Route on Norte and downclimbed the northeast face to the col at its base. They decided to abort their attempt of the West Ridge of Huandoy Este, and made their way back to camp. (High Mountain Sports 162)
