Nevado Churup, Southwest Side. On July 23, 1994, after 20 hours of constant climbing, Spaniards Enrique Ortuno and Rolando Gine inaugurated a new route on the southwest face of Churup (5493 meters). This face had the Fear-Lahr-Malatoux-Ridgeway route (August 18, 1972), which starts directly below the summit. The Spanish 1994 route is situated to the left of the former (see photo and data in Extrem 70, 1995, page 73).
