Comment: A fine overview of Chilean climbing from the beginning: fascinating material of pre-Columbian archeological sites over 6000 meters; data on foreigners passing through like Gervassutti, Shipton, Tilman, Maestri, Terray. Of more local interest are sections on Chilean exploits in the Himalaya. Whatever Echevarría tackles, it is always painstakingly researched and radiant with authenticity.
