Asia, Tibet, Lunpo Kangri Attempt

Lunpo Kangri Attempt. Lunpo Kangri rises to 7095 meters (23,278 feet) some 700 kilometers west of Lhasa. Hiroshi Yashima led an expedition of nine members of the Himalayan Association of Japan to the mountain. On April 22, they placed Base Camp at 5200 meters and had yaks carry their gear to Advance Base at 5700 meters. They set up Camp I at 6200 meters on the northeast ridge. They reached a high point of 6350 meters after climbing some hard mixed pitches. They then turned to the north ridge but gave up there on May 23.
