Hagshu Attempts. The usual approaches to the Kishtwar area have been restricted, forcing a long route via Lahul or Zanskar. A Spanish expedition led by Cristobal Real Gil approached via the Umasi La from Zanskar. They established Camp I at 5700 meters near the rock wall and attempted the south ridge and southwest face of Hagshu (6330 meters, 20,768 feet). Bad weather defeated their attempt and the expedition was given up on August 26. Britons John Barry and John Manekolow tried the north face and reached about 5800 meters. Bad weather coming from the south kept them from success in September.
