Jøkulkyrkia, Queen Maud Land. Under the leadership of Norwegian Ivar Tollefsen, Norwegians made a number of notable ascents. On January 10, all 13 members, including Ralph Høibakk, reached the 3148-meter (10,329-foot) summit of Jøkulkyrkia. The party then divided and small teams ascended some 25 unclimbed peaks, pinnacles and rock spires, some of extreme difficulty. The ascent of the 1150-meter-high northwest face of Ulvetanna (2931 meters,9616 feet) took them 11 days from January 24 to February 4. They gave it a UIAA grade of VIII, A2, 70° ice. The summiters were Robert Caspersen, Sjur Nesheim and Tollefsen. Very demanding were the ascents of Gessnertind (3021 meters, 9911 feet), Kinntanna (2724 meters, 8937 feet) and Holtanna North (2630 meters, 9629 feet).
