Various areas in Utah. In Canyonlands National Park, the 32nd ascent of Standing Rock was made by a new route, three pitches on the east face. Easter Bunny (5.8, A4) was climbed on Easter weekend by Barry McLane and Simon Peck. In the San Rafael Swell, the north face of Bottleneck Peak was climbed by James Garrett and Dave Medara. Their new 4-pitch route, Woody’s Roof is rated 5.10+, A2. In southern Utah, near Hite Marina on Lake Powell, the tower Goat Roper (5.10+) was climbed by Carl Diedrich, Julie Calhoun and Wendy Pitas. It is composed of Moenkopi sandstone and is located a half mile north of the Hite Marina store. Also in that region, the striking tower on the road to the Sewing Machine Needle, Middle Finger Tower, (5.9, A3-) was climbed by Steve Anderton and Bill Duncan. A new route and the second ascent of Jacob’s Chair in southern Utah’s Fry Canyon was made by Diedrich, Pitas and Calhoun. They climbed the southwest dihedral: Critters in the Gallery (III, 5.10, A2), three pitches on Wingate sandstone. In Grand Gulch in southern Utah, a spire, Corsa del Gallo, (III, 5.11) was climbed in five pitches by Tim Toula, Dave Insley and Bill Hatcher. Approach was made to Grand Gulch via the San Juan River.
