Jan Kielkowski continues to put out guidebooks to some of the high-mountain areas of the world. The mountains in various regions are given with a description of each peak, the different routes with the first ascensionists, sketch maps and line drawings of the peaks with ascent lines marked. The series keeps being added to. At this writing, there are 12 booklets on the Himalaya, 9 on the Karakoram and 6 on the Cordillera Huayhuash in the Peruvian Andes. Some of the volumes are in English or German, but unfortunately for many of our readers most of the recent ones are in Polish. With the maps and drawings, this makes little difference and where the text is dealing in proper names and dates, a little guessing helps the reader who has no knowledge of Polish. A person planning an expedition or a serious student of mountain history will be well advised to get into contact with Pan Kielkowski.
