P 6180, Mustang Himal and Source of the Kali Gandaki. Austrian Helmut Burisch and I followed up the Kali Gandaki to where it forks near the Tibetan border. The bigger branch flowed from the northwest from the heart of the Mustang Himal. It obviously flowed from the five glaciers that clothe the slopes of the holy mountain, Dongmar. We followed the stream for two days to where at 5500 meters it emerged in an amphitheater from the glaciers. In 1953, Herbert Tichy had climbed Dongmar (6210 meters, 20,374 feet, now usually called Kangdungmar). We climbed P 6180 (20,276 feet), which lies west of Lo Mantang, the medieval-like capital of Mustang. Local people told us the mountain was called Kang Gongola.
