Skiing Off Mount Everest. In the pre-monsoon season, German Reinhard Patscheider skied down the normal South Col route on Mount Everest from 8400 meters. His record was beaten on September 27 when Frenchman Pierre Tardivel skied from the South Summit (8748 meters, 28,702 feet). He used supplementary oxygen during his descent. Also in the spring, Hans Kammerlander and Norbert Joos skied down from 7800 meters on the north side of Everest.
