New Fork Lakes Buttress, 1990. About six miles up from the New Fork Lakes Trailhead lies a large south-facing granite wall to the left above the trail, visible from the road driving into New Fork Lakes. I have heard it referred to as the China Wall. Left of this wall and split by a gully sits a smaller, unnamed buttress. On September 13, 1990, Jacob Valdez and I put up a nice four-pitch route. We climbed steep talus to the start of the route, a finger/hand crack splitting a face just left of a left-facing dihedral. The first pitch is the crux. The remaining three pitches round off the day with interesting 5.9— to 5.10+ climbing for a total of 500 feet.
