Dartmouth Mountaineering Club

Dartmouth Mountaineering Club. Our club has concluded another safe, productive year. While others waited for the winter snows to melt in New England, three members went to the Mealy Mountains in Labrador for a two-week ski trek. Spring brought the usual trips to the White Mountains, northern Massachusetts and the Shawangunks in New York for rock-climbing instruction. In the fall the club continued its commitment to introductory climbing and ran first-year, rock-climbing trips to Artist’s Bluff at the northern end of Franconia Notch. Climbing went into late November, taking advantage either of unusually warm days or of aid climbing under protective overhangs. In December, six members went to their first climbing competition in upstate New York, with some placing successfully and all having a great time. Ice climbing on the small formations of western New Hampshire provided weekend entertainment for a few of our members.
