Arizona Mountaineering Club

Publication Year: 1992.

Arizona Mountaineering Club. The club conducted two basic schools for beginning rock climbers and a lead school for advanced climbers. There were also courses on anchors and advanced ropework as well as orienteering and a seminar in Flagstaff on winter survival.

We maintained the summit trail on Camelback Mountain, rebuilding and revegetating the area around it. In November, at the request of Grand Canyon National Park, we staged a two-day cleanup, hauling out a ton of garbage.

The access committee was formed to help deal with the access to local and national climbing areas. It has worked with park officials to educate them about bolting in the Supersitions. A decision about climbing there is now being awaited. We also have worked with the City of Scottsdale on access to Pinnacle Peak and Svens Slab.
