Publication Year: 1991.

Shakhaur Attempt. Our expedition was made up of Massimo Ragana, Elena Guabello, Andrea Sampaoli, Mario Berto, Ernesto Silvoni, Pietro Badan, Dr. Francesco Zaccaria, Ezio Sinigaglia and me as leader. We traveled for two days by minibus from Rawalpindi to Chitral and then a day by jeep to Shagrom. With 40 porters, we trekked for three days to Base Camp at 4200 meters below Shakhaur (7116 meters, 23,347 feet). Camps I and II were placed at 4950 and 6050 meters on August 6 and 10. Four climbers made four attempts to reach the summit on August 14, 15, 16 and 17. All attempts were beaten back by very strong winds, the highest point reached being 6250 meters.
