Nanga Parbat Winter Attempt, 1990-1. An attempt to climb Nanga Parbat during the winter is being made as we go to press. There are no details yet available. The expedition is being led by the well-known Polish climber Maciej Berbeka. On March 6, 1986, Berbeka climbed solo to the foresummit of Broad Peak. He thought he had reached the summit. A very strong wind was blowing snow from the direction of the main peak and that prevented his seeing clearly where he was. When he saw photographs of the foresummit, he quickly pointed out that that was the place he had been and disclaimed having reached the true summit.
