Nanga Parbat, Diamir Face Attempt and Tragedy. A large Korean expedition had as members leader Choi Chang-Don, deputy Yoon Jang-Hyun, Wee Gae-Roung, Kim Uong-Gie, Lee Eun-Sik, Song Yeong-Ho, Oh Sung-Gae, Park Chang-Gi, Kim Kyeung-Seon, Lee Seung-Won, Park Sin-Young, Chung O-Seng, Cong Son-Peack, Mun Tae-Chui, Seo Jong-Kap and Chang Joon-Ho. They had planned to climb the Messner route of 1978 but changed their objective to the standard 1962 German route. One of their members, Park Chang-Gi, on July 3 joined two Bulgarians of the previous group for the summit attempt. He was not feeling well and, despite the help given by the Bulgarians, had to turn back. As he descended he fell to his death in a crevasse at 7400 meters.
