Satopanth. Our expedition was organized by the Italian National Mountain Rescue Corps. Medical research was carried out by the University of Pisa. The members were Marcello Ambrogi, Roberto Bemucci, Dr. Alessandro Bian- chini, Paolo Cavallo, Massimo Corniani, Stefano Funck, Bruno Giovannetti, Andrea Marchetti, Fabrizio Molignoni, Franco Raso, Yoshiyuki Tawara and me as leader. We climbed the normal north-northeast ridge. We established Base Camp, Advance Base and Camps I and II at 4600, 4900, 5100 and 5750 meters on August 5, 7, 9 and 10. On August 12, Funck and Tawara reached the summit at 2:15 P.M. They bivouacked at 6350 meters on the descent. On the 13th, Molignoni, Ambrogi and I made a second summit try, which failed in bad weather.
