South America, Patagonia, Paragliding from Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, 1988

Publication Year: 1990.

Paragliding from Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre, 1988. Four German climbers led by Matthias Pinn made a number of unsuccessful attempts on Cerro Torre in August 1988 before turning to Fitz Roy, which they climbed by the Supercouloir. After a bivouac on the summit, they paraglided back to Base Camp. Finally, they managed to climb the Maestri bolt route on Cerro Torre, but the wind was so strong that the only sensible thing was to climb back down. Some days later, they were helicoptered back to Cerro Torre’s summit and they completed paraglider descents from there.
