Asia, India—Garhwal, Bhrigupanth

Publication Year: 1989.

Bhrigupanth. We climbed Bhrigupanth (6772 meters, 22,220 feet), above the Kedar valley. First, we had hoped to climb Thalay Sagar, but there was too much snow. We established Base Camp, Advance Base, Camps I, II and III at 4000, 4600, 5300, 5500 and 6100 meters on August 17, 19, 20, 21 and 27. Camp III was near the col between Bhrigupanth and Thalay Sagar. On August 29, Javier Olivar and I climbed the south face to the summit in seven hours. There was ice up to 60°. The other members were Julián Vicente, leader, Víctor García, Juan Díaz and Juan Hernández.
