P 6247, South of Gorichen, Arunachal Pradesh, 1987. A 37-member team of the 21st Mountain Division of the Indian Army was led by Lieutenant Colonel Subhendu Sen. They left Chansari railway station in Assam on September 29, 1987 and went via Sela to Dzong on the road to Tawang. From Dzong they trekked five days eastward to reach Base Camp at 15,500 feet. There were no villages for the last two days. They moved north from Base Camp and set up camps at 17,000 and 19,000 feet. On October 19, 1987, the leader Sen, Lieutenant Bajaj, Vinod Kumar, Sherpa Lakhpa, N.D. Sherpa, Kuldip Singh, Pancham Singh, Hari Thapa and Hira Thapa reached the summit. They were back in Chansari on November 11.
