Asia, India—Garhwal, Shivling, West Ridge and Northeast Face

Publication Year: 1988.

Shivling, West Ridge and Northeast Face. Boštjan Kekec, Rupar Uroš, Damjan Vidmar, Aco Pepelnik and I got to Base Camp at Tapovan on September 3, but on the 7th I left for New Delhi. I returned with food on September 13. Meanwhile Uroš and Kekec had climbed the west ridge of Shivling. Pepelnik, Vidmar and I started up the northeast face of Shivling on September 17. It took us three days to climb the lower part of the face, first rock and then mixed climbing. On the fourth day it was mostly snow and ice. We got to the Scott ridge on the fifth day. The sixth bivouac was in the séracs just below the summit. We reached the summit on the morning of September 23 and were back in Base Camp that night. The greatest difficulties were in the lower half of the lower wall and near the top of Shivling.
