Manaslu Attempt. Both Catalan members, Enric Bassas and Francisco Barcelona, with sirdar Nima Dorje Tamang and Gyalgen Sherpa, pitched Camp at 5600 meters above Naike Col on April 8. That is as high as they got on the standard route. A heavy snowstorm drove them down to Base Camp with frostnipped toes. They stayed in Base Camp to let their toes recover and then returned to the site of Camp II on April 21. An even heavier snowstorm on April 18 had so deeply buried their camp that they could find no signs of it; they retreated that same day to Base Camp. That was the end of the attempt.
