Witches Tower, North Face Dihedral, 1986. On July 30, 1986 Dan Nordstrom and I hiked in over Asgard Pass to test this sunless dihedral. We started in a white dihedral to the left of the main open-book. The next two pitches followed the main corner and a hand crack thick with lichen to the base of an overhanging headwall. We could have escaped the cold by heading left in a gully, but by following discontinous cracks above, we arrived at a sunny belay. The final summit arête was memorable both for its exposure and its warmth. (III, 5.10.)
