South America, Argentine-Chilean Patagonia, Cerro Castillo, 1987

Publication Year: 1987.

Cerro Castillo, 1987. On January 26, 1987 my husband Gino Buscaini and I climbed an 800-meter-high, snow-and-ice couloir which had an angle of 55° in the upper part of the west face of Cerro Castillo (Coyhaiquel; 2670 meters) in Chile. We climbed the whole couloir to the col (2570 meters) on the summit ridge. Unfortunately we could not continue on to the summit because of a snow storm. We found no signs of previous climbers but this is the logical route to the summit of this lovely peak.
