Asia, Nepal, Nilgiri North

Publication Year: 1986.

Nilgiri North. A Polish women’s expedition came to Nepal rather late in the season and established Base Camp on October 21, just 3½ weeks before the season officially ends. They attempted the north face to the west ridge of Nilgiri North, the same route attempted by poles in the spring of 1985. They found that ever deep snow made a fast alpine-style ascent impossible. They were bogged down by the deep snow and abandoned the attempt after Bernadeta Stano and Jolanta Wysocka reached a high point of 6200 meters on November 12. They had three camps above Base Camp. The leader was Danuta Wach.
