Annapurna II Attempt. Eight Japanese led by Masaaki Fujii tried to climb Annapurna II by its south face. They made four high camps. A high point of 7020 meters was reached on October 5 by Fujii and Masafumi Tokada when they were making the route to what they hoped would be their summit camp. They returned to Camp IV at 6800 meters but on the 6th heavy snowfall and high winds drove them down. When the storms continued unabated, on October 11 they decided to abandon the climb. Members were hit by avalanches on September 25 and October 2, but no one was injured.
