Annapurna South Face Winter Attempt, 1986. A Bulgarian expedition led by Boian Atanasov attempted the very difficult Polish route on the south face of Annapurna. They failed in the winter season after being granted a time extension to February 22, 1986. A final bid on February 22 and 23 by two members and two Sherpas was driven back by high winds from 7000 meters. The expedition withdrew to the Pokhara valley to resume their attempt in March.
